Cedar

PE Information

Cedar’s PE sessions will be on Fridays.  Please come into school in your PE kit on these days.

In addition to our PE lesson, we will have an additional PE Skills lesson on Thursday. For this the children will need to wear trainers.

Shorts/tracksuit bottoms and top and white or black trainers.

Homework

Year 5 Homework Expectations

Homework will be set online and will be assigned on Friday and will be expected to be completed before the following Friday. If you do not have access to the internet or suitable devices to complete the homework at home, other arrangements will be made so that the children can complete their homework in school. Please speak to the teacher prior to the date that the homework is due if there are any problems. Please note, if homework is incomplete and there is not a valid reason, the child will need to complete their homework in their own time during school hours.

English

Each week, the children will be given a piece of English homework to complete.

Spellings: Children will be given spellings every Monday and will be expected to learn these ready for their test on the following Monday. By the end of Year 5, children are expected to  be able to spell the Year 5 Core Spellings which can be found at the front of their homework diaries.

Reading: Children are expected to read 3 times a week. This is the minimum expectation and we strongly suggest that they read a lot more than this. Reading banded books as well as their own books will stretch their imagination and expose them to a wider range of vocabulary. Dojos will be awarded for each signature with a maximum of 7 dojos per week. Children are also expected to choose 3 new words and write them in their homework diaries with appropriate definitions.

Maths

Each week, the children will be given a piece of Maths homework to complete.  This may also be set online using MyMaths.

Times Tables Rockstars: We also suggest that the children try to complete 3 sessions on TTRS a week. Keep an eye out for battles against other classes that your teacher may have set up!

RM Easi: In addition, completing 3 sessions on RM Easi throughout the week will benefit the children greatly and we strongly suggest that the children complete these if possible. Please note, RM Easi is not accessible on iPads or Chromebooks as it requires Flash Player.

Spellings

New spellings are handed out every Monday and tested the following Monday. Children must record their scores in their homework diaries.

A great iPhone/iPad app that you can personalise by typing in their weekly spellings to make practising fun, is Squeebles Spelling Test

Timetables will be tested every week. A useful website for practice is TimesTables Rockstars (children will be given your login details).

There are also excellent iPad apps available such as: Squeebles Times Table; Times Tables; Multilpication Personal Assistant;  DK Times Tables Times Genius; Tables Quiz.
