Sport
Sport at Ardleigh Green Junior School
Physical Education is at the heart of the curriculum at Ardleigh Green Junior School. Provision and achievement has been recognised by Sport England, with the award of Active Mark Gold and more recently by the prestigious Platinum Award from the Youth Sport Trust.
Children participate in indoor and outdoor physical activities on a weekly basis. Our Hhysical Education programme, which fully meets National Curriculum requirements, includes coaching in the following sports.
Gymnastics, Dance, Yoga, Football, Rugby, Cricket, Tennis, Netball, Basketball, Boccia and Panathlon.
Curriculum provision, which provides two hours physical activity a week, is enhanced and extended through a wide range of extra-curricular activities. These activities currently include:
Gymnastics, Football, Tag Rugby, Netball, Tennis, Basketball, Street Dance, Cricket, Athletics and Change for Life.
Years 3 to 5 swim weekly during the Autumn Term in our outdoor swimming pool, whilst Year 6 swim at Central Park School during the Autumn Term. Our aim is to ensure that every child who leaves our school is a competent swimmer.
As a school we seek to encourage all pupils, regardless of ability, to participate in some form of physical activity. Play leaders organise daily activities for all classes, whilst the National Golden Mile Challenge seeks to encourage every child to walk at least one mile a week. Last year Ardleigh Green were the Havering Golden Mile Champions collectively completing over 2000 miles!
Through the Havering Sports Collective, all year groups participate in Sport Festivals throughout the year. In addition, we participate in competitive competitions for football, netball, tennis, rugby, cricket, athletics and boccia. Our athletics team have been awarded the Primary School Team of the Year Award by Havering Council on three occasions, in recognition of the school representing Havering in the London Youth Games and winning gold medals in both the indoor and outdoor competitions. Year six participate in an annual Outdoor Pursuits Venture at Sealyham West Wales, which allows children to participate in climbing, abseiling, coasteering, sailing, canoeing, raft building and orienteering.
During the academic year commencing September 2019, the school will receive additional funding of £9815 to further develop sporting provision in school. This money will enable us to:
Maintain our school based swimming programme.
Participate in the Havering Sports Collective.
Provide coaching and training to support and develop our current provision.
Employ a Sports Coach to deliver aspects of our Physical Education Programme.
