A127 Bank Holiday Update from TFL

28 Apr 2017

Dear Stakeholder,

I’m writing to remind you about the works planned this weekend as part of the replacement of Ardleigh Green Bridge, which carries the A127 Southend Arterial Road over railway lines in the area.

We are now planning to complete the demolition of the eastern side of the bridge this bank holiday weekend (between 28 April and 2 May). As this work cannot be completed while the carriageway is being used, the road will be temporarily closed in both directions over the course of the bank holiday weekend.

Traffic impacts
From 21:00 on 28 April until 06:00 on 2 May:
  • No access for through traffic along the A127 in both directions between Gallows Corner and the junction of Ardleigh Green Road and Squirrels Heath Road
  • Local access for residents and businesses will be maintained at all times
  • Access to and from Bryant Avenue will continue to be possible via the A12

From 06:00 on 2 May:
  • The A127 will re-open to traffic in both directions, as per the current traffic management arrangements

Marshals will be on-site to help maintain local access for residents at all times.

A diversion route for through traffic will be clearly signed, although the area is likely to be busier than normal during the works. Please plan ahead and allow more time for journeys through the area, where possible. Live road travel information is available from [tfl.gov.uk/traffic]tfl.gov.uk/traffic and @TfLTrafficNews on Twitter.

Pedestrians
Access on foot across the A127 and Bryant Avenue will be maintained at all times. Pedestrian access to properties will also not be affected.

Working hours
As agreed with the London Borough of Havering, the demolition work will take place 24 hours a day.

Other work will continue in the area on Mondays to Friday, and on some weekends between 08:00 and 18:00. Much of this work is carried out below street level, so is not visible. Some overnight works will also be needed to complete the works while there are no trains running.
