Covid 19 Update

16 Jun 2020

Ardleigh Green Learning Federation has been open throughout the Covid 19 Lock Down period providing childcare for Key Workers and support for identified vulnerable families. During this time the school have supported over 50 of our families.

From the first day of Lock Down staff have set daily Home School Learning tasks. In the Junior School this has been delivered through Google Classroom, in the Infant School the Class Do Jo Platform has been used. In addition, there has been a weekly singing session through Facebook Live, a Weekly Video Update from the Executive Headteacher and regular contact with children and parents.

The feedback from parents has been overwhelmingly positive. Parents have appreciated the regular contact, communication between home and school and the way in which the staff have balanced teaching in school and the preparation and delivery of Home School Learning.

From June 1st, (Phase 1) in line with the government’s decision to begin to re-integrate more children back into school, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 children were invited back to school. (The choice of Year Groups was a government not school decision.) A questionnaire was sent to all eligible families and provision was made for all children who wished to return. Across the federation this was approximately 66% of eligible children.

Following the completion of a detailed Risk Assessment and a Back to School Strategic Plan arrangements were made to re-integrate Reception, Year 1 Year 6 alongside childcare provision for Key Workers. Parents were informed of arrangements through two videos which highlighted:
  • Modifications to the school site.
  • A staggered start and finish to the school day.
  • Social distancing arrangements.
  • The concept of children being taught in  “Bubbles.”

In accordance with government guidance to plan for Phase 2 of school re-integration, a further questionnaire was sent to Reception, Year 1, Year 6 and Key Worker children to see if they wished their children to return to school. Again this was a government not a school decision. This questionnaire was issued in order to ascertain if the school had the capacity to welcome back other Year Groups as well as continuing the provision for those classes in school. The results of the questionnaire showed a rise of pupil numbers in all groups with a rise from 66% of eligible pupils returning to 75%. The increase in pupil numbers, together with the continuation of the 2 metre social distancing rule means that at the present time the school does not have the capacity to re-integrate additional Year Groups.

If government guidelines, particularly in relation to social distancing and children being taught in discreet bubbles then the current situation will of course be reviewed.
