Mathematics

Our Maths curriculum is centred around a mastery approach to Maths, with children’s prior learning at the forefront of the planning process. It provides a platform for future Maths learning. Over the course of KS2, our teaching is designed to help learners understand the mathematics they are learning and to integrate new knowledge into larger concepts. It is our belief that all children are capable of understanding, providing their individual needs are met. Each lesson contains elements of fluency practice, exploration of ideas and reasoning.

Our Mathematicians

Knowledge: A mathematician at Ardleigh Green Junior School will be fluent with key arithmetic facts and able to apply these to calculations with confidence.

Skills: Our children will be able to explore different ideas, agree on the most suitable method, explain their understanding and demonstrate a deeper level of confidence and competence.

Experiences: Our times table and problem solving challenges happen weekly and our yearly Maths Week includes visitors to the school who inspire our children with real life experiences of Maths. All of this is key to nurturing our children’s skills in arithmetic and reasoning and inspiring them to be future mathematicians.

Times Table Journey

Our Times Table Journey booklets record milestones in the children’s ability to recall their times tables and correctly answer questions on them. Stickers are awarded to our pupils for their achievements in their booklets.

Curriculum Planning

Careful curriculum planning ensures that our pupils build on existing knowledge and skills over the course of their Ardleigh Green Junior learning journey. This leads to better understanding, knowledge retention and engagement.
