Spring Term Sports Report

We have enjoyed another successful term in sport .The clubs, which were created for Year 3 and 4 in street dance, football and netball continue with swelling numbers. There has been tag rugby for Year s 3,4,5 and 6. Clubs continue in dance, street dance,football, gymnastics,7 –a-side netball, tennis, football, Kwiksticks  hockey, indoor athletics, outdoor athletics and basketball.

Athletics

Our Indoor Athletics Team entered the East London Championship and came  2nd  in an exciting competition held at the Copperbox. They then proceeded to Crystal Palace for the London Championships where they won the silver medal . The boys 2 lap and 3 lap relay ,4 by 1 lap relay, ,triple jump team, vertical jump team and over and under relay  are all champions for the whole of London. James Okoro was placed 1st in all his 4 events. For the girls, we have champions in Speed bounce and over and under relay. Madeline Bates and  Alfie Wilkinson are  London champion as an individual and Mel Anouman for vertical jump Rebecca Heath is Javelin champion. Thanks to Mrs Gibbons, Mr Harris and Mrs Shephard for the help they have given me with the team training. We have been informed that for the year 2015-16 we were the top National team.
Our Athletics team (2015-6 ) was voted  one of the top Primary School Teams of the Year by the Havering Sports’ Council .Ryan Battrum and Chloe Birch received a Trophy at a reception at Upminster Golf Club.

Over 100 children went for further trials at Hornchurch Stadium to select the final teams of 6 to train for the Quadkids competition in June. The final 6 will compete in the Quadkids competition in June.

Rugby

Our Year 5 and 6 rugby team went to a tournament in Barking and were narrowly beaten in the final after a superb performance. Our Year 4 and 5 children enjoyed a Tag festival at Coopers School. Our Year 3 and 4 team  competed in a competition and enjoyed the experience. Our thanks go to Daniel Freeman’s dad and grandad as well as Mrs Everitt.

Gym

Our gym team in Year 3 and 4 attended the Havering Gym Championships at Emerson Park School and came 3rd.They will now represent Havering at the London Gym Championships at Crystal Palace .Our Year 5 and 6 team were narrowly beaten into 2nd place. Superb performances all round .Thanks to Miss Sheenan.
 
 
Netball
 
Our netball team won all the matches  and  became joint  league champions .They then went  in the quarter finals of the Havering Netball Competition  and won through to the semis which they will play after Easter.Thanks  to Mrs Smith and her mum and Mrs Carroll for their fantastic support.

Football
Football Club continues to run for all Year 6 pupils every Tuesday. There are currently 54 children in the club!
The Boys Football Team came second in their league and are in the semi-finals of both the league and the cup competitions. The finals are to be played early in the Summer Term.This has been the best season ever for our football team. The finals will be after Easter. The Girls Team represented the school in the Havering Cup Competion winning two of their four matches.

Swimming

A group of Year 5 and 6 children competed in a Swimming Gala at Abbs Cross School. Harry Pengelly won bronze for Ardleigh Green in breaststroke and Megan Harris reached the final of the backstroke.The boys freestyle team  (Ryan Battrum, Harry Pengelly and Jacob Long) came 6th overall. A team also enjoyed taking part in a water polo competition at St.Edwards  School.

Hockey

The hockey team went to the Havering Quick sticks finals and narrowly missed the quarter finals. Further teams went to the hockey festival at Coopers School and came 2nd .Thanks to Mr. Harris and Sam Lister for their help and support
Some of our Year 5 children attended a sports day at UEL.

Pentathlon
Children in Years 3 -6 enjoyed a day with Carly Borrow from 5-a-day fitness taking part in a pentathlon.
Our Pentathlon team enjoyed a morning at Hornchurch Sports Centre and came 1st in Key Stage .Charlie Leavens won an award for the top scoring boy.
Thanks to all parents who have given their support for these events and given their time to train the children.
