Visitors from Iceland

We were delighted to welcome a group of teachers from Reykavik in Iceland. Our partnership with schools in Iceland started approximately five years ago as a result of a writing project with Cambridge University. Since then, schools in Reykavik, the capital of Iceland, have visited our school to observe teaching and learning and to take back ideas and resources for their children. As well as visiting our Infants School on this trip, the teachers also visited Redden Court Academy.

At the end of the visit the teachers met with Bill Jennings to give him feedback on their visit. One teacher, who has visited us three times said, "Everytime I visit Ardleigh Green I see something new; the school is so inspiring!"

Other comments made to Bill Jennings capture the visit.

"The standard and quality of the children's written work is excellent. The work of your 9 year old children is of a higher standard than our 14 year olds."

"I love the school song. It really captures the vision and values of your school.""

"Everything is so well organised."

"In assembly, every child was focussed and paying attention. The singing was wonderful; I couldn't believe that the little boy (Mel) had the courage to stand up and sing a solo infront of so many children! I had goosebumps. It was a WOW moment!"

"The behaviour in class is excellent. I really like the fact that the children can all explain what they are learning and are not distracted by us being in the lesson."

We were very impressed with the way the teachers carefully track children's progress and use the information to plan their lessons. We now see how we can develop a similar process for our school.
