Spring Term Sporting News

25 Mar 2015

We have enjoyed another successful term in sport .The clubs, which were created for Year 3 and 4 in street dance, football and netball continue with swelling numbers. There has been  tag rugby for Year 4. Clubs continue in dance, disco dance, 7 –a-side netball, , football, quicksticks  hockey, indoor athletics, outdoor athletics and basketball.
Our Indoor Athletics Team entered the East London Championship and came 1st in an exciting competition held at the Copperbox in the Olympic Park. They then proceeded to Crystal Palace for the London Championships. They came 2nd and won the silver medal. All children were outstanding. The boys’ long jump team are London champions as are Isabelle Fallows for Speed Bounce and James With for long jump.
Our Athletics team (2013-4 )was voted Primary school Team of the Year by the Havering sports’ Council .Ryan Lowe and Brooke Coatman received a Trophy at a reception at Upminster Golf Club.
Our netball team won all the matches  and  became league champions .They are currently in the semi- finals of the Havering Netball Competition.
The football team came second in their league and lost in the Havering Championships by 1 -0  in the final.B and C teams have also played friendly matches. Our Year 4  and 5 girls tag rugby team enjoyed an afternoon at Beam school Barking where they took part in a tournament. Our Girls’ 6 -a -side squad came 3rd in the  Havering Champions at the Astro turf centre .
Over 100 children went for further trials at Hornchurch Stadium to select the final teams of 6 to train for the Quadkids competition in June. The final groups of 6 are now practising hard.
Children have enjoyed badminton and net skills lessons in school with professional teachers. Our Year 3 and 4  and Year 5 and 6 gym teams are going to  Emerson Park Academy for a gym competition this Thursday.
A group of Year 5 and 6 children competed in a swimming gala at Abbs Cross School. The girls’ relay came 1st and are Havering Champions. The team overall came 5th.
A group of Year 4 dancers have been practising their dance which they will perform at the Havering Dance festival. All children enjoyed a day of pentathlon multi-sports run by Carly Borrow of 5-a-day fitness fame. This included various running, balancing and fitness activities.
The hockey team went to the Havering Quick sticks finals and narrowly missed the quarter finals on goal difference. Further teams went to the hockey festival at Coopers School and came 3rd.
We are looking forward to the Ardleigh Green disco competition next term.
Thanks to all parents who have given their support for these events and their time to train the children..
